Pomeranian Training

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Pomeranian!

Pomeranian puppies require extensive training. Pomeranian training is not a hard job to master, but you must be extremely patient with these pups, just as you would any other puppy. Pomeranians are stubborn little creatures and will run your home if you do not establish firm boundaries for them. They will appreciate it, just as a child appreciates discipline. When training your Pomeranian puppy, keep in mind that he is a fast learner and will excel in the training if it is brought to him with patience and consistency. Your new Pomeranian will be the joy of your life once you have established the rules for him. It is simply a matter of teaching him who is the boss in the family.

Pomeranian training is easy because they are very intelligent animals, but housebreaking your Pomeranian is going to one of the most difficult things for both you and the puppy. Setting up a permanent schedule, one that you must follow to the letter every day, will help your Pomeranian greatly. Keeping your Pomeranian in a crate part of the time will aid in the training considerably. They will not use the bathroom in their sleeping area as a general rule, so doing this will usually train the puppy quickly in the art of using the wild outdoors for their bathroom duties.

Pomeranian training also includes the leash. You must teach your Pomeranian proper leash etiquette, which is going to be a challenge. But it does not have to be a huge task. Just like potty training, leash training requires patience and consistency. The first thing you must teach your Pomeranian is to sit while on the leash. This usually is learned quickly. Giving your pup a snack when he sits will teach him that he did the right thing and will be anxious to please you in the future.

When on a leash for the first time, most dogs will try to bolt out the door with you dragging behind them. Pomeranians are small, but they will still try to do this in the beginning stages of leash training. Pomeranian training is easier than the training of some large dogs because they are extremely intelligent, but they still need to learn how to act on a leash. Stand in one spot, even if it takes five minutes or more, while your pup is excited. After a few minutes of jumping up and down and trying to take off while on the leash, your Pomeranian will finally settle down and realize you are not going anywhere.
